Scientific Linux ist eine angepasste RHEL-Version für das CERN und die Fermi-Labs. Das ist erst einmal der Hauptzweck, nämlich die anfallende OS-Arbeit höchst zuverlässig und dauerhaft unter kompletter Eigenkontrolle der Software zu erledigen. Der Rest ist "Zugabe", nicht mehr. Auch das ist - genauso wie die geschlossene Welt der CentOS-Devs - keine klassische Community, auch wenn sie - so wie es in solchen Kreisen allgemein üblich ist - sehr offen agiert. Fazit: Für das von Dir thematisierte Szenario taugt Scientific Linux ergo gar nicht.
