Ich bin zwar nicht gerade ein Fan von Google (und deren spionierenden Dienste), aber ich finde es gut, dass immer mehr bekannte (Win/Mac) Software auch für Linux erscheint!
Habs grad mal installiert: Die OpenGL-Ansicht zeigt mit den Standard-Einstellungen jede Menge Grafikfehler (Anzeige verschoben), wenn ich anfange mit den Einstellungen rumzuspielen wirds noch weit schlimmer (Texturen in Falschfarben). Verwendet wird ein aktuelles X.Org 7.0.0 auf einem Intel 915G on-board Grafikchip, ich hab solche Darstellungsprobleme sonst absolut nie - OpenGL-Bildschirmschoner und Spiele laufen problemlos.

Erstens find ich das extrem gut, dass Google das macht (hab schon darauf gewartet, seit ich hörte dass GE auf der QT basiert). Nur leider ruckelt das Ding bei mir extrem ... keine Ahnung warum, GraKa hat genug Power (ATI X800 GTO^2) und weder XGL noch andere 3D-Anwendungen machen Probleme ...
Google Earth läuft auch ohne 3D-Hardwareunterstützung. Beim Start wird einem dann lediglich mitgeteilt, dass das Programm sehr langsam arbeiten wird. Und das tut es dann auch tatsächlich. Dafür ist die Darstellung der Daten dann aber - anders als wenn ich das Programm mit 3-D-Unerstützung starte - fehlerfrei.
Also erstmal ein fettes danke an Google... Nur leider ist die Schrift bei mir hier extrem klein geraten. Andere qt und gnome apps funzen wunderbar. Ich hab freetype2 mit bytecode interpreter, ohne font antialiasing hier. Selten habe ich ein Linux Programm gesehen, dass sie so einfach installieren ließ und dann auch noch so perfekt läuft. Google, ihr habt ne saubere Arbeit gemacht. 30 sek. Installation. Läd in weitern 15 Sekunden. Keine Grafikfehler, nichts. Weiter so!
... nur frage ich mich nach dem praktischen Nutzen? Kann man das Ding auch für etwas Produktives einsetzen, oder ist es nur Spielerei? Wohl kaum, sonst würde Google das Ding nicht so hypen.

Nach einem Absturz vermeldet Google Earth auf stdout, was man also nur sieht wenn man es auf einer Textkonsole gestartet hat:

Das ungefragte Versenden von Informationen an den Hersteller halte ich für ziemlich makaber.
fein das Teil steht schon in pclinuxos im repo - apt-get install googleearth so gefällt mir das. Erst Picasa jetzt googleearth. Beides schöne programme.

Läuft ohne Probleme mit guter Performance, Athlon 2GHz, 512MB und NForce 5200 mit nvidia Treibern.

Einfach die Fenstergröße verkleinern und dann wieder maximieren. Danach funktionierts hier wunderbar
