MayaVi news

For more detailed news please refer to the ChangeLog mentioned above.

  • Sep. 13, 2005 -- MayaVi-1.5 released. MayaVi2 is currently under development (and has been so for the last several months). It has been graciously funded by Enthought, Inc.
  • Feb. 2, 2005 -- MayaVi-1.4 released. This is long overdue.
  • Aug. 15, 2004 -- New CVS snapshots, older VTK binaries etc. are now available at http://vvikram.com/~prabhu/download/. Thanks to my friend Vikram Vijayaraghavan again for hosting this!
  • Nov. 18, 2003 -- MayaVi-1.3 is finally released.
  • Oct. 25, 2003 -- Added Wiki and FAQ. Using MoinMoin for the Wiki. I found this page very helpful!
  • Oct. 23 2003 -- New CVS snapshot available. Almost ready for the 1.3 release. Added BandedSurfaceMap, Text, Labels modules and a CutPlane filter. Contours can now be specified manually using a list/tuple. Plus the usual round of bug fixes.
  • Oct. 16, 2003 -- New CVS snapshot available at the usual place. Whole lot of improvements and additions. Also added new Delaunay2D, Delaunay3D and UserDefined filters.
  • Sept. 27, 2003 -- Fixed a nasty bug in Common.py that triggered segfaults under Mac OS X. Added a generic Glyph module and a StructuredPointsProbe filter. The filter can be used to do volume visualization for any dataset.
  • Sept. 24, 2003 -- Created a new CVS snapshot with sources, Debian packages, RPMS and standalone GNU/Linux binary (with GL2PS support). The snapshot is available from http://av.stanford.edu/~prabhu/download/mayavi. Thanks to Vikram Vijayaraghavan for hosting this!
  • Sept. 19, 2003 -- Added a volume visualization module to MayaVi. An initial version was contributed by Gerard Gorman and included a very nice Tk based color transfer editor GUI. Thanks Gerard! I've improved on his code and added a bunch of new features and committed the resulting module to CVS.
  • Sept. 12, 2003 -- Made a presentation on MayaVi at the SciPy'03 workshop held at CalTech. Slides available here.
  • July 3, 2003 -- More improvements in CVS. VtkPickler can now save/load configuration from a dictionary. ConfigVtkObj is much improved and can also be configured to generate a GUI for a selected bunch of methods. Added option to save rendered scene via GL2PS, this requires VTK to be built with GL2PS support. I also contributed the vtkGL2PSExporter to VTK. Added Wavefront OBJ export support (patch contributed by Richard Boardman).
  • May 11, 2003 -- Lots of improvements in CVS. Fixes for the Tk 8.4 related issues, fixes for deprecation warning messages from VTK, added magnification factor when images are saved, new reader for VTK's XML data format, new filter ExtractGrid that lets one select a VOI and sample rate for any grid based input dataset.
  • Jun. 13, 2002 -- MayaVi 1.2 released. The MayaVi license has changed from GPL/LGPL to BSD. Notable changes: added a data picker, light manipulation kit and fixed some serious bugs.
  • Dec. 27, 2001 -- MayaVi now has Debian packages! Look here: http://packages.debian.org/mayavi. Many thanks to Maitland Bottoms for packaging MayaVi and VTK for Debian.
  • Nov. 15, 2001 -- Preparing for a new release. Quite a few new features have been added. Most notable is that MayaVi can be used as a Python module and be scripted from the Python interpreter. There has been quite a lot of interest in MayaVi and several people have been very impressed by it.
  • June 23, 2001 -- Updated the VTK related links to use the new VTK web site. Made slight improvements to the installation page. A few bugs have been fixed and a few things enhanced in the last month and there has been a good deal of interaction on the mailing list.
  • May 13, 2001 -- CVS'd the sources, the HTML docs and the web page sources. Also released MayaVi-1.0 and vtkPipeline-1.1.
  • May 10, 2001 -- Name finally chosen as "MayaVi".
  • May 8, 2001 -- Wrote a users guide using DocBook.
  • May 2, 2001 -- A new design for the web site using Barry Warsaw's ht2html.
  • May 1, 2001 -- Completed a clean up of the new version. Also added a few new features. During the course of the week spent lots of time trying to find a good name.
  • April 5 - 22, 2001 -- I completely rewrote/redesigned vtk-cfd and threw away all the old code. There are many new features that I have added. Most important of these are:
    • The ability to run multiple modules simultaneously.
    • The ability to use multiple data sources simultaneously.
    • The ability to save and reload a complete visualization.
    • Highly improved modules, a new segmented pipeline browser.
    • The ability to filter data using a data filter. A few simple but useful filters have also been included.
    • Support for importing a VRML scene (thanks to Dr. P. A. Rubini for his suggestions).
    • Much improved GUI.
    • Simple animation of data using autosweep of slider values.
