Only works, if it is connected to a Windows machine with HP's "driver" installed. PCL is only implemented in the driver, to support DOS applications in the DOS box of Windows.
The printer has only 1 MB of RAM and 32 kb (!) of ROM and is USB only.
In addition, the case of the printer is of a very bad quality, it is the same as of the LaserJet 1200 and the german newbie Linux magazine "Linux User" (issue 10/2001) reviewed the LaserJet 1200 and during the tests the paper tray broke out twice (they got a replacement printer after returning the first broken one).
HP tries to enter the super-low-cost-disposable-printer market with this model. You burn around 249 bucks when buying this first-class paperweight. If you really cannot afford a PCL laser printer, buy at least the Samsung ML-4500 "GDI" printer, Samsung delivers it with a GPLed driver and people report that it works nicely under Mandrake Linux 8.x.
Printer does not support PJL.
