Hallo erst mal!

Hat schon jemand `ne Graka mit dem Radeon9000-Chip von ATI in Betrieb?
Wenn ja mit welchem Xfree86-Release? Oder andere Treiber?
Wie ist die 2D-Bildqualität (1280*1024)?
Ist 2-Schirm-Betrieb möglich?

Auf der SuSE-SDB ist leider noch nichts zu erfahren, unter www.xfree86.org wird der Chipsatz auch nicht erwähnt. Dort behauptet man zwar alle Radeon-Karten sollten funktionieren, aber da bin ich mir nicht so sicher. Bei den Graka-Herstellern war auch nichts in Erfahrung zu bringen.
Vielleicht könntIhr mir ja helfen.

Ich verwende eine Radeon 8500 (Build by Ati), xfree86 4.2.0 mit den (Binary-) Treibern von ATI (auch die Treiber von xfree86 sind sehr gut, tw. sogar besser, aber nur 2D). Da ja die 9000er eine abgespeckte 8500er ist wirst Du damit auch keine Probleme haben.
Bildqualität ist sehr gut (1152x864, Samsung 900SL), wesentlich besser als die der GF2Pro die ich vorher hatte.

Deine Antwort macht mir Mut. Ich habe inzwischen auch einen kommerziellen 2D-Treiber gefunden, der Deine 8500er und die 9000er Chips unterstützt. Das macht Hoffnung, das auch Xfree86 diese Chips unterstützt.
Nochwas hinterher. Im Moment benutze ich eine ATI-Rage 128. Als ich die Karte kaufte war an sax oder sax2 noch lange nicht zu denken. Xfree86 gab`s schon, unterstützte die Karte aber nicht. Nach langem suchen fand ich einen Treiber, der die Karte unterstützte. Mit dem ging es dann.
Diesmal möchte ich diesen Stress nicht wieder haben.

Habe seit gestern eine Radeon9000 in Betrieb. Einrichtung der Karte mit SuSE-Konfigurationstool sax2 (basiert auf XFree86-4.2.0). 3D wird nicht unterstuetzt, 2D-Bildqualitaet ist bei 1280x960 gut.

Ich benutze SuSE-Linux8.1
-als root aus der Konsole sax2 aufrufen
-nach der automatischen Erkennung der GPU (RV250) werden von sax2 die Treiber geladen und die Konfigurationsmöglichkeiten für
Bildwechselfrequenz und Auflösung angeboten
-testen, speichern, fertig.

Andere Distries haben andere Konfigurationstools.
Mit XFree86-4.2.1(www.xfree86.org/) sollte auch dort die Einrichtung möglich sein.

Hmmm. Ich habe versucht bei einem Freund Debian zu installieren, allerdings will X nicht laufen. Der ati XFree86 Treiber (XFree86 4.2.1) meldet "no screens found", die vesa und fbdev treiber starten zwar X, aber beim beenden (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) gibt es einen Reset des gesamten Systems (!). Vielleicht könntest Du mir sagen wie die Karte unter SuSe läuft (die XF86Config wär z.B. nicht schlecht) oder irgendwer hat eine Idee was ich noch versuchen könnte.

Ich vermute, Du hast dem System noch nicht die Parameter Deines Bildschirms mitgeteilt (no screen found deutet sowas an). Dann arbeitet das System im vga-Modus(800x640,8Bit).
Warum Ctrl+Alt+Backspace ein Reboot (und nicht Init3) ausführt, weiss ich nicht.
