XFree86 Konfiguration
Hallo Leute,
ich bin auf die neue Debian Woody Distribution umgestiegen. Nur leider gelingt es mir nicht den X-Server ans fliegen zu kriegen.
Ich habe nen AMD-Athlon Rechner mit ner alten Asus 3400TNT ( ein Riva TNT mit 16 MByte RAM ). Ich erhalte immer die Fehlermeldung " No Screens found " obwohl ich welche mit x86cfg konfiguriert habe und diese auch (IMHO) ohne Fehler in der Config.-Datei stehen.
Hat jemand von Euch nen Tip, was man beachten sollte. Muß ich die NVidia-Treiber installieren ?

nein, die nvidia non-free treiber brauchst du nur, wenn du 3d hardware beschleunigt haben willst.

Wie startest du X? bzw was steht in deiner .xsession?(Als user nicht als root.)

Das gleiche Problem hatte ich auch.
Folgendes: Bei der X-Free Konfiguration kannst du durchaus als deine Grafikkarte "nv" angeben, was ohne zu meckern angenommen wird.
Standardmäßig sind aber die "nv" Treiber nicht installiert. Dies führt dazu, daß "X" nicht mehr startet. Die Fehlermeldung die du bekommst ist leider nicht viel aussagend.
Installiere über "dselect" die "nv" Treiber und dann sollte es funzen.

Danke für die Tips. Habe die nv Treiber aber nicht unter dselect gefunden. Alle Opt X11 waren aber installiert. Welchen muß ich denn vielleicht de- und danach installieren?

Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, ob das ein X oder ein Windowmanager-problem ist.
Du kannst folgendes machen:
1. mv .xsession .xsession.old ; vi .xsession ; hier gibst du nur eine Zeile ein: "exec /usr/bin/startgnome"
dann "chmod +x .xsession" , dann "/etc/init.d/gdm stop" und dann startx (Alles als user!). oder:
2. ganz einfach: apt-get install xfce (als root) und dann "xfce_setup" (als user).
Hierbei hast du einen garantiert einfachen WM , und wenn der nicht geht, ist's ein X-Problem,
wobei deine XF86Config allerdings o.k. aussieht. Dann würd ich mal die nvidia-treiber probieren.
Kannst ja wieder posten dann<img src="http://www.pl-forum.de/UltraBoard/Images/Wilk.gif" border="0" align="middle">

Ich nochmal. Also bei einer Debianinstallation mit dem VGA-Server und einer Farbtiefe von 4Bit konnte ich jetzt schon mal KDE starten.
Also lag es wirklich an dem nv-Server.
Also habe ich mir die tar Files von NVidia geladen.
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.tar.gz
NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960.tar.gz
Beide entpackt und dann mit make install gestartet.
Das doofe dabei ist, das der GLX geht aber der kernel mit der Fehlermeldung gleich am Anfang abbricht.
nv.c:22: linux/modversion.h : No such file or directory
make: *** [nv.o] Error 1
In den FAQ steht nix hilfreiches drin. Hat jemand ne Idee was zu tun ist?
Also lag es wirklich an dem nv-Server.

Mit dem Original-kernel von Debian hat es bei mir auch nicht geklappt.
Ich hab' mir dann den 2.4.19 besorgt, die kernel.config (irgendwas mit 2.4.18fb2.4 oder so ähnlich, bin leider grad
nicht an meinem Computer<img src="http://www.pl-forum.de/UltraBoard/Images/Happy.gif" border="0" align="middle"> nach /usr/src/linux-2.4.19/.config kopiert, ein bisschen in den Menüpunkten rumgemacht<img src="http://www.pl-forum.de/UltraBoard/Images/Wilk.gif" border="0" align="middle">
und dann den Kernel kompiliert.Dann lies sich das nvidia-kernel.tar.gz installieren.
Es müsste aber auch mit dem 2.4.18 gehen, wenn du wie oben vorgehst (schau mal auf www.debianforen.de nach).
