Hi,
ich verwende Suse 8 Pro, und habe einen Promise Fasttrak 100 TX2 mit Raid0 laufen.
Bekomme seitdem ich den neuen Treiber von Promise installiert habe, die untenstehende Fehlermeldung, weiss nicht was diese Fehlermeldung bedeuten soll?
fasttrak_ioctl not support the fun (0x5310).

In den aktuellen 2.4er Kernel ist doch bereits Support für die Promise-Controller drin sodass man nicht mehr auf die - anscheinend buggy - PROMISE-eigenen Treiber angewiesen ist also warum weiterhin die Promise-Treiber einsetzen?

Say Y or M if you have an IDE Raid controller and want linux to use its softwareraid feature. You must also select an appropriate for your board low-level driver below.
Note, that Linux does not use the Raid implementation in BIOS, and the main purpose for this feature is to retain compatibility and data integrity with other OS-es, using the same disk array. Linux has its own Raid drivers, which you should use if you need better performance.

Say Y or M if you have a Promise Fasttrak (tm) Raid controller and want linux to use the softwareraid feature of this card. This driver uses /dev/ataraid/dXpY (X and Y numbers) as device names.

Highpoint 370 software RAID

Say Y or M if you have a Highpoint HPT 370 Raid controller and want linux to use the softwareraid feature of this card. This driver uses /dev/ataraid/dXpY (X and Y numbers) as device names.

Ich habe einen Fasttrak66 und nutze den Treiber aus der -ac Serie
erfolgreich. FDisk macht auch keine Probleme, über Yast kann ich nichts sagen.
Promise hat ja lange für den Support gebraucht - auf der CeBit dieses Jahr
schlug einer der Promise Leute mir tatsächlich vor, ich solle den Windows
Treiber deassemblieren - ich glaube das sagt alles
Bisher konnte ich nur den 2.2.x Kernel nutzen und mußte ihn jedes Mal mit den
Treiber Sourcen, die ich vor 1.5 Jahren von Promise erbettelt hatte, patchen.
Allerdings lief der nicht unbedingt reibungsfrei, da ich öfters Meldungen der
Art "fasttrak_ioctl: Unable to handle NULL pointer." und "fasttrak_ioctl not
support the fun" auf der Konsole hatte. Auch kam es zu "seltsamen"
Systemstillständen, bei denen nur noch die HDD-LEDs brannten.
Mit dem Treiber aus 2.4.6-ac5 geht es wunderbar - keinerlei(!!) Probleme auch
wenn er mit "Version 0.02" ultra-alpha aussieht.

Joao Paulo Martins had no luck getting a Promise SuperTrak100 RAID controller working on his dual PIII with kernel 2.4.3, and he found an exact description of his problem already reported on linux-kernel in the archives. He said that Alan Cox and Andrew Morton's comments in that thread had helped him, but that now he still got I/O errors when trying to make a filesystem, although he had no trouble starting the modules or creating the partitions. Jens Axboe replied that he'd recently asked Promise to give him a sample SuperTrak so he could get it working under Linux, but they'd refused. He suggested that Joao
bother Promise and ask what they intend to do about it.
Alan Cox replied,
I've been talking constructively to promise about the i2o on the supertrak not working straight off with the kernel i2o driver. Currently it looks promising.
Various folks were happy to see Alan on the job, and Andrew Chan added,
While you are at it, can you bug them for FastTrak (the software RAID thing) support? Their drivers are ages behind and Andre doesn't seem to be able to get them cooperate either.
Alan replied that he'd talk to them about that at some point.
Finally, Alan concluded,
They seem very keen not to co-operate on the fasttrak so its probably best to avoid motherboards that have the fasttrak chipset and tell the board vendor why.
