Modem erkannt aber kei Dialtone

Hallo.
Ich betreibe in meinem Netzwerk einen kleinen 300 MHz PII Server mit Suse Linux 10.0

Ich habe ein altes externes Modem (Analog) angeschlossen.
Nach mehreren gelesenen Howtos habe ich eine Anleitung gefunden die anscheinend soweit Funktioniert.
Ist zwar für Suse 9.1 aber funzt soweit anscheinend

Das Modem wird zumindest schoneinmal namentlich erkannt.

Minicom erkennt das modem und Initialisiert es auch. At wird mit OK bestätigt.
Leider erhalte ich "No Dialtone" wenn ich über atd einen Versuch starte auf meinem Handy anzurufen. ATX3 (zum abschalten der Freizeichenerkennung ) habe ich auch geschaltet.

Kann mir jemand sagen was ich noch vergessen oder falsch gemacht habe?
Versuche nun schon seit 4 Tagen mit 2 Verschiedenen Modems das zum laufen zu bekommen.

Kannst du denn einen durchgehenden Wählton hören, wenn du den Modemlautsprecher per AT-Befehl einschaltest? Wenn du hinter einer Telefonanlage sitzt, wird der Wählton oft nicht als solcher erkannt. In diesem Fall musst du in /etc/wvdial.conf einstellen, dass nicht auf einen Wählton gewartet werden soll.

Ah jetzt geht es komischerweise. Kann Faxe über hylafax versenden.
Und das mit einem uralt USB Modem von typhoon.
Nun muss ich es nur noch zum Empfangen überreden.
