... seit heute funktioniert der Scroogle Scraper nicht mehr, weil Google das von Scroogle benutzte Interface platt gemacht hat. Vermutlich war's das für Scroogle. Not nice! Wer bislang noch Zweifel hatte, der weiss es jetzt mit Bestimmtheit: Google is evil!

Für alle, die nicht wissen worum's hierbei geht ... Scroogle ermöglichte normale Google Suchen, jedoch ohne die damit verbundenen Nachteile: keine Speicherung der IP (volle Anonymität gegenüber Google), keine unerwünschten Cookies, keine Werbung, etc. ... ich habe Scroogle seit Jahren als standard Search Engine im Suchfeld von FireFox oder Opera benutzt. Es hat prima funktioniert. Wirklich schade, dass Scroogle jetzt vermutlich für immer weg ist.

P.S.:
Der Name ist natürlich zusammengesetzt aus "Scrooge" (dem unsympathischen Charakter aus Dickens' Weihnachtsgeschichte) und "Google" (der unsympathischen Search Engine, die einen nach Strich und Faden ausspioniert) ...

Dieselbe Story habe ich heute vormittag schon mal im Distrowatch Forum gepostet, weil ich dachte, dass sich die Leute für sowas interessieren. Leider hat Ladislav meinen Beitrag aber sofort plattgemacht. Als ich dagegen protestiert habe, ist mein Protest ebenfalls sofort verschwunden. Tja, und dann ist die Situation ein wenig ausser Kontrolle geraten und ich habe Ladislav etwas beschimpft Für mein viertes (und letztes) Posting konnte ich das Distrowatch Forum nur noch über einen Proxy erreichen, denn inzwischen hatte Mr.Bodnar meine IP blockiert. Das ganz hat sich innerhalb von 15 Minuten abgespielt. Unmöglich, sowas ...

Scroogle ...

... since last night the Scroogle Scraper doesn't work any more because apparently Google have killed the interface that Scroogle had been using. Presumably this is the end for Scroogle. Not nice! Anyone who still had any doubt about Google now knows for certain: Google is evil!

For those of you who don't know what this is all about ... Scroogle made it possible to use the Google search engine without having all the disadvantages that come with its standard interface ... your IP didn't get stored (full anonymity towards Google's data mining backends), no cookies were set, no adverts in the search results etc. ... I've been using Scroogle since years as my standard search engine in the search fields of Firefox or Opera browsers. It worked very well and I'm sorry to see it go.

... surely, this can't be so! I wonder what was wrong with my previous posting #70 where I reported (and mourned) the disappearance of an interesting front-end to a popular search engine? Why did this get deleted? Not nice, Ladislav.

... you're being a bit silly, Ladislav? Really, you should be able to come up with something better than blocking people's IP to shut them up for good. Why don't you question your attitude towards free speech for a change? It's no good to quote Mark Twain who was a strong advocate of free speech and then act like a Nazi yourself ...

If you censor people in your forum, why don't you at least post a short comment that explains why in your opinion someone's post had to be deleted?

Vor ungefähr einer Stunde habe ich mit einem neuen Nick (Darjeeling) und mit Hilfe eines Proxy Servers (Distrowatch hat meine IP blockiert) nochmal einen kurzen Beitrag im DWW Forum gepostet, der bislang (noch) nicht gelöscht worden ist. Ich hoffe, dass das so bleibt und dass meine IP wieder freigegeben wird ...

I'm happy to report ...

... that Scroogle, the anonymizing front-end to Google's search engine works again today after Google had killed the interface for this service two days ago. This is likely to be the result of the huge reaction and the outrage Google's action had caused on the Internet over the past 48 hours ... from Slashdot to The Register and in dozens of forums the issue was reported, discussed and overwhelmingly condemned. It is certainly not the result of the silence in the Distrowatch forum where despotic censorship made it impossible to even mention the issue.

Vermutlich ist Distrowatch auch nicht der richtige Ort dafür, Nachrichten über Google zu posten. Im allgemeinen mögen es Forenbenutzer auch nicht, wenn sie die Abfälle eines "outrage" bei sich im Vorgarten wiederfinden. Da ist es sehr lieb, wenn der Hausmeister den Müll schnell wegräumt.

Darüber solltest du mal nachdenken.

... warum vermuten? Warum siehst du nicht selber mal nach? Im Distrowatch Forum werden überwiegend Linux Distributionen diskutiert. Es ist aber offen für alle möglichen IT bezogenen Themen. Die Änderung von Google Policies, aber auch Internet Security und Privacy gehören dazu, wie man leicht herausfinden kann, wenn man sich in dem Forum mal umsieht. Mir ist aber klar, dass die falsche Vermutung notwendig war um die beabsichtigte, blödsinnige Schlussfolgerung zu rechtfertigen ...

Eigentlich wollte ich dich nur schnell zum Aufgeben bringen, bevor du mit deinem Müll auch hier anfängst.

Also, thematisch, weil du es ja so willst: Google hat alles Recht der Welt, seine Schnittstellen zu ändern wann und wie es will. Man macht sich mit sowas nicht unbedingt Freunde, klar. Das ist aber kein Grund, in aller Welt (hier also ebenfalls) rumzututen und *vor allem* so herrlich zu übertreiben wie du das tust. Gerade eben wieder.

Das ist meine bescheidene Meinung. Die musst du nicht akzeptieren. Allerdings wird es dir wenig bringen, dies nicht zu tun. Darüber nachzudenken würde dir zumindest ermöglichen, die Dinge auch mal so zu sehen, wie andere das tun.
