Ubuntu Security Notice USN-5064-1

cpio vulnerability
==========================================================================

A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 21.04
- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

Summary:

GNU cpio could be made to crash or run programs if it opened a specially
crafted file.

Software Description:
- cpio: a tool to manage archives of files

Details:

Maverick Chung and Qiaoyi Fang discovered that cpio incorrectly handled
certain pattern files. A remote attacker could use this issue to cause cpio
to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary
code.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 21.04:
cpio 2.13+dfsg-4ubuntu0.3

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS:
cpio 2.13+dfsg-2ubuntu0.3

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS:
cpio 2.12+dfsg-6ubuntu0.18.04.4

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
