Background ========== gdb is the GNU project's debugger, facilitating the analysis and debugging of applications. The BFD library provides a uniform method of accessing a variety of object file formats. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 sys-devel/gdb < 9.1 >= 9.1 Description =========== It was discovered that gdb didn't properly validate the ELF section sizes from input file. Impact ====== A remote attacker could entice a user to open a specially crafted ELF binary using gdb, possibly resulting in information disclosure or a Denial of Service condition. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All gdb users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=sys-devel/gdb-9.1" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2019-1010180 https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2019-1010180 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202003-31 Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users' machines is of utmost importance to us.
